Building research

The theme of this book is the shared research interest of architectural history, archaeology, building research, and engineering sciences regarding questions of historical building construction. Since the early 20th century, these disciplines have developed differently, but a look into the history of science reveals common research lines within the polytechnic tradition. The dialogue among the various fields of expertise is once again a natural practice in building research. Contributions on topics ranging from early high cultures to the production of model houses address current research questions in the fields of building and construction history. An edition of commented texts revives the discussion that has been ongoing since the 16th century regarding the methodology, subject matter, and future of building research. Projects from academic work exemplify analyses of historical constructions.
