After the two classics "Hotel dreams between glaciers and palm trees" and "Hotel palaces between dream and reality", the renowned architectural historian Roland Flückiger-Seiler presents the long-awaited third overview of Swiss hotel and tourism history. The magnificently illustrated volume provides new insights into Swiss mountain hotels, which have hardly been presented to date, and thus complements the two previous books. The focus is on mountain hotels from the period between 1830 and 1920, from the early base camp for the first ascents of the three and four thousand metre peaks to the viewing hotel in the high mountains. Architectural design, technical pioneering work and the development of the hotels by rail are further focal points. The Valais, the Bernese Oberland and Central Switzerland appear to be the main focus.
