Beda Hefti was born as the son of Thomas Hefti and Berta, née Linder, in Walenstadt. Hefti studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and graduated in 1918 with a degree in civil engineering. Beda Hefti, who was a member of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects, settled in Freiburg in 1920 and opened an engineering office there.
