Horgenglarus Classic

Description

The Swiss wooden chair classic 1-380 is a legend. With its simple form amidst the furniture of historicism of that time, the anonymous design of 1918 appears as if from another world: "clear and unadorned in its form, material-appropriate in its production and unpretentious, robust, sustainable and natural - an icon of Swiss design," describes Hubertus Adam, journalist, architecture critic and former director of the Architekturmuseum Basel, the chair. The classic thus anticipates the model of Swiss type furniture. Originally manufactured as an inn-house pickling chair, the 10 S fits into many atmospheres with its unobtrusive expression. Probably every Swiss has already sat on it. It has been in schools, restaurants and apartments for decades. Like the Swiss Army Knife, the bestseller is part of Swiss design history and thus a cultural asset. Another testimony to its extraordinary quality is that the classic is not a re-edition, but has been produced continuously and unchanged since 1918; only the masses were carefully adjusted in 1999, after all, today we are larger than 100 years ago. In addition, "1-380" was given the name "classic". The chair with the seat frame, hind feet and back made of steam-bent solid wood survives decades thanks to the "finest, professional design", as it says in an advertisement in 1917. Its solid construction makes any cross strut superfluous, its ergonomics make it very comfortable. classic has not only been in the horgenglarus range for almost 100 years, it has set standards and is thus the classic of classics. It is the beginning of a typology of related chairs that have been on the market since the 1930s. The classic is the backbone of the horgenglarus collection on which designs by Max Ernst Haefeli, Werner Max Moser or later Hannes Wettstein, but also the table glaris were based. He inspired designers like Jasper Morrison or artists like Rolf Sachs. And since 2009, 60 designers such as Joerg Boner, Frédéric Dedelley, Daniel Freitag and Christoph Marchand have interpreted the classic in the award-winning project "Take a seat".more

A permanently fixed chair in a train or theater is a seat or airline seat; when riding, it is a saddle and bicycle saddle, and for an automobile, a car seat or infant car seat. Wood

Wood is generally used to describe the solid or hard tissue of the stems (trunk, branches and twigs) of trees and shrubs. Botanically, wood is defined as the secondary xylem of seed plants produced by cambium. According to this definition, however, the woody tissues of palm trees and other higher plants are not wood in the narrower sense. However, the storage of lignin in the cell wall is also characteristic here. In a broader definition, wood is therefore also understood as lignified plant tissue. From a cultural-historical point of view, woody plants are probably among the oldest used plants. As a versatile, but especially renewable raw material, wood remains one of the most important plant products to this day.
