For a smart cup of tea: Ember

Hot drinks and a forgetful mind don’t go well together. This is exactly what the inventor Clay Alexander thought when he developed the world's first temperature-regulating thermos mug. It keeps your hot drink exactly the way you like it from the first sip to the last drop. Read on to find a quick guide to this innovative product.

Does this sound familiar: you make a cup of tea, put it aside for it to cool down and before you know it, you've lost track of time and your tea is cold. Ember's founder, Clay Alexander, discovered this market niche and launched mugs that are designed especially for people who love hot drinks and are forgetful. The «Travel Mug» is designed to be used on the go while the «Ceramic Mug» is ideal to be used in your home. Both keep your tea or coffee hot and even let you set your desired drinking temperature.

A novelty that’s been a long time in the coming

Founder and entrepreneur Clay Alexander has been working on his product for eight (!) years. Not without reason: the Ember mug can proudly call itself «the world's first temperature control ceramic mug». It's said to keep the beverage in a desired temperature for up to two hours as long as the mug isn’t placed on its charging station. The Ember app lets you know when your drink has reached the perfect temperature. You can also customise and predefine settings for your favourite drinks. The app is available for Android and iOS users. As an extra for Apple users, the app is easily combined with «Apple Health Integration» to track your caffeine intake.

On the go

The interior of tis thermos mug is made of phase changing material, which withdraws heat from your drink and makes sure your beverage reaches the desired temperature. The desired temperature is adjusted by app or by rotating the dial at the base of the mug. The app also allows you to name your mug after yourself, which is quite a nice feature, as your mug will switch on and say your name.

  • battery life: up to two hours
  • temperature control: manual and/or via the app
  • cleaning: the mug must be washed by hand; the lid is dishwasher-safe

Important notes

  • These Ember products must NOT be placed in the microwave.
  • These products are designed to keep hot beverages hot or warm, but not to warm up cold drinks. This would take too long and reduce the battery life.
  • The ceramic mug and the travel mug can also be used without being connected to a smartphone, but pairing the mug with the app unlocks all customisation features.
