Description

Jaroslav Poncar is one of the most important Tibet photographers and connoisseurs of the entire Himalayan region. In 1985 he was the first European to cross Tibet completely from east to west. His photographs, taken on a total of four extensive journeys between 1985 and 1993 on the roof of the world, show us a country that no longer exists, because modernization has changed the street scene and some cities in recent years. For this illustrated book, Poncar collected many previously unpublished photographs from his extensive archive, which are now of historical significance. His photographs are documents of a country he first visited shortly after the hesitant opening by the Chinese government.
