Description

An ultra-telephoto zoom lens with optical stabilizer (OS) has several advantages. The OS allows the photographer to take pictures in almost any situation. The narrow viewing angle of a telescope allows the perspective to be dramatically compressed and the background to be flexibly designed. This allows the photographer to create the impression of a subject jumping out of the image, with the focused area being impressively sharp and clear.

Ultra-Tele lenses, however, have also had some typical disadvantages. As the hint "Tele-Riese" shows, they tended to be large and heavy. It was therefore difficult to wear them. With the aim of creating an ultra-telephoto lens that is much more practical, we have incorporated our latest technologies in the SIGMA 100-400 mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary.

With its outstanding combination of optical performance and compactness, this is an ultra-tele lens that can be worn and used beautifully. While maintaining the robust functionality and exceptional image quality of an Ultra-Tele Zoom lens, we have created an amazingly compact body for a 400mm lens.

A camera lens (also known as photographic lens, objective lens or photographic objective) is an optical lens or assembly of lenses used in conjunction with a camera body and mechanism to make images of objects either on photographic film or on other media capable of storing an image chemically or electronically.
While in principle a simple convex lens will suffice, in practice a compound lens made up of a number of optical lens elements is required to correct (as much as possible) the many optical aberrations that arise. Some aberrations will be present in any lens system. It is the job of the lens designer to balance these out and produce a design that is suitable for photographic use and possibly mass production.
A lens may be permanently fixed to a camera, or it may be interchangeable with lenses of different focal lengths, apertures, and other properties.
