A digitec product

Description

The 4400a is the latest in a lineage of mics started 10 years ago with our sE2200a. Based on the same capsule design, but expanded to a dual capsule to give multi polar pattern function, and retuned to suit multiple application use, this mic is a rarity. It has 4 polar patterns, Cardioid, Hypercardioid, Figure of 8 and Omni; 2 bass cuts at 60Hz and 120Hz and 2 pads at 10 and 20dB. The chassis is very compact. It is extremely thin at less than 3/4” and fits neatly in the palm of your hand, and the design allows for the mic to be used flat onto a drumhead or guitar cab. It is also fantastic for sung vocals and voice over work. It has a black, non-reflective and non-marking, rubberised finish which is ideal for live stage, theatre, TV andbroadcast applications which require lighting. The mic is multi-functional yet uncluttered; the sound is smooth and flattering and yet, because the capsules are hand made (like all sE mics) and then individually tuned, it benefits from lacking the usual hyped top end of most modern mass produced mics from automated machines. When purchased as a pair, the capsules are factory-matched for perfect tolerance, guaranteeing the best possible stereo image. This configuration also includes a precision stereo mounting bar and two of the the 4400a's custom shock mounts. The whole setup comes packaged inside a secure flight case.more

Microphone properties

A microphone (colloquially called a mic or mike; both pronounced /ˈmaɪk/) is an acoustic-to-electric transducer or sensor that converts sound into an electrical signal. Microphones are used in many applications such as telephones, tape recorders, karaoke systems, hearing aids, motion picture production, live and recorded audio engineering, FRS radios, megaphones, in radio and television broadcasting and in computers for recording voice, speech recognition, VoIP, and for non-acoustic purposes such as ultrasonic checking or knock sensors.

Capacitor
i

Capacitor

The condenser microphone, invented at Bell Labs in 1916 by E. C. Wente is also called a capacitor microphone or electrostatic microphone—capacitors were historically called condensers. Here, the diaphragm acts as one plate of a capacitor, and the vibrations produce changes in the distance between the plates.

Impedance
i

Impedance

Electrical impedance, or simply impedance, describes a measure of opposition to alternating current (AC). Electrical impedance extends the concept of resistance to AC circuits, describing not only the relative amplitudes of the voltage and current, but also the relative phases. When the circuit is driven with direct current (DC), there is no distinction between impedance and resistance; the latter can be thought of as impedance with zero phase angle. Impedance is defined as the frequency domain ratio of the voltage to the current.

Sound Pressure Level
i

Sound Pressure Level

Sound pressure level (SPL) or sound level is a logarithmic measure of the effective sound pressure of a sound relative to a reference value. It is measured in decibels (dB) above a standard reference level. The commonly used "zero" reference sound pressure in air or other gases is 20 µPa RMS, which is usually considered the threshold of human hearing (at 1 kHz).

XLR
i

XLR

The XLR connector is a style of electrical connector, primarily found on professional audio, video, and stage lighting equipment. The connectors are circular in design and have between 3 and 7 pins. They are most commonly associated with balanced audio interconnection, including AES3 digital audio, but are also used for lighting control, low-voltage power supplies, and other applications. XLR connectors are available from a number of manufacturers and are covered by an international standard for dimensions, IEC 61076-2-103. They are superficially similar to the older and smaller DIN connector range, but are not physically compatible with them.
