sE Electronics RN17 Stereo Paar (Stereo, Matt black)

Description

The RN17 is our latest addition to the new sE Rupert Neve range of mics. Using a custom designed, hand wound transformer, this is the world’s first pencil mic with a large scale, ultra high performance, transformer. Combined with a newly developed 17mm capsule from sE, the world’s smallest production gold sputtered Mylar capsule, the result is truly magnificent. The definition and detail from the capsule is incredible, made more so by the headroom afforded by the Rupert Neve transformer. The combined effect is one of extreme clarity, with a wonderfully silky finish.
When purchased as a pair, the transformers and cardioid capsules are factory-matched for perfect tolerance, guaranteeing the best possible stereo image. This configuration also includes a precision stereo mounting bar, two shock mounts, a wooden presentation case, and empty canisters for future capsule additions. The whole setup comes packaged inside a secure flight case. The matte black finish minimizes the level of visual attention drawn to the microphone when used on stage or in the studio, allowing it to blend into the background.

The sE RN17 is the ultimate in pencil mic perfection… ideal for all instrument mic-ing applications, this, like the RNR1, is a mic set to change recording history

Microphone properties

A microphone (colloquially called a mic or mike; both pronounced /ˈmaɪk/) is an acoustic-to-electric transducer or sensor that converts sound into an electrical signal. Microphones are used in many applications such as telephones, tape recorders, karaoke systems, hearing aids, motion picture production, live and recorded audio engineering, FRS radios, megaphones, in radio and television broadcasting and in computers for recording voice, speech recognition, VoIP, and for non-acoustic purposes such as ultrasonic checking or knock sensors.

Capacitor
i

Capacitor

The condenser microphone, invented at Bell Labs in 1916 by E. C. Wente is also called a capacitor microphone or electrostatic microphone—capacitors were historically called condensers. Here, the diaphragm acts as one plate of a capacitor, and the vibrations produce changes in the distance between the plates.

Impedance
i

Impedance

Electrical impedance, or simply impedance, describes a measure of opposition to alternating current (AC). Electrical impedance extends the concept of resistance to AC circuits, describing not only the relative amplitudes of the voltage and current, but also the relative phases. When the circuit is driven with direct current (DC), there is no distinction between impedance and resistance; the latter can be thought of as impedance with zero phase angle. Impedance is defined as the frequency domain ratio of the voltage to the current.

Sound Pressure Level
i

Sound Pressure Level

Sound pressure level (SPL) or sound level is a logarithmic measure of the effective sound pressure of a sound relative to a reference value. It is measured in decibels (dB) above a standard reference level. The commonly used "zero" reference sound pressure in air or other gases is 20 µPa RMS, which is usually considered the threshold of human hearing (at 1 kHz).

XLR
i

XLR

The XLR connector is a style of electrical connector, primarily found on professional audio, video, and stage lighting equipment. The connectors are circular in design and have between 3 and 7 pins. They are most commonly associated with balanced audio interconnection, including AES3 digital audio, but are also used for lighting control, low-voltage power supplies, and other applications. XLR connectors are available from a number of manufacturers and are covered by an international standard for dimensions, IEC 61076-2-103. They are superficially similar to the older and smaller DIN connector range, but are not physically compatible with them.
