    Very good hard drive!

Bought 2 of these HDD and made a RAID-0 out of it,
    450-500mb/s
These HDDs are very fast, even single they get 230mb/s.
Of course they are normally used for NAS systems, but they also run very well in a computer.

    Good buy

After a lot of bad experiences, I bought a Seagate HD again. It is the third HD in a Raid5 array in the Synology NAS.
I always use different manufacturers in Raid arrays. I know that's against every rule. But this way I
can be sure that several HDs don't die within a very short time. Unfortunately, this has already happened to me, with Seagate.
And lo and behold, this drive is quieter, faster and colder than the other 3. Just 30°C at 25° ambient temperature. The others have 32 and 34 degrees. Operation is 24/7.

Now I'm just curious whether the new HD will live longer than the WD red, which is also new.

    Pro

    • Heat generation
    • Speed (not so relevant for Raid5)
    • Quiet

    Failing drives with short lifetime

3 years ago I bought two Seagate IronWolf 4TB to use them in my Synology NAS.

One of them was dead-on-arrival and has been quickly replaced by Digitec.

Now, 3 years laters, 1 drive completly failed (according to Synology
SMART test) and the second one is also failing with bad sectors increasing...

In summary, all my Ironwolf drives died. I will never again purchase an IronWolf disk and I replaced them with some WD Red Plus.

    Pro

    • Cheaper than WD

    Contra

    • Short lifetime
