Expensive, but uncompetitive if you want it to be as lazy and low maintenance as possible.

Had previously the Roomba 980 and actually it is stupid to buy a new one. But I was always annoyed by the emptying of the container, because it was quite a dusty thing. Have him now tested a few days and allow me a first feedback.

He is much quieter at work than the predecessor. Therefore, first gave the impression that he would suck weaker, but so far I could not determine a worse result.

He seems to drive less often, smoother and quieter against walls / obstacles.

The map was completed after 3 cleaning cycles. Now I could title and classify all rooms. The operation was not quite intuitive for me. Therefore I had to start again several times. But you only have to do that once. After that you can choose exactly which rooms you want to clean. Works very well.

Otherwise, the light ring on the Roomba should be mentioned. The circling animation of the LED ring is very cool.

It is good that neither the Roomba nor the docking station lights up when the device is in standby. With the predecessor, I had to tape over a light on the docking station because it annoyed me in the bedroom.

Doesn't seem to be any faster than the predecessor. Need both for my apartment about 45-50min.

And of course the clean base, the reason I bought it:
Can't say yet how long it takes to fill the bag. But the vacuuming is working wonderfully so far. It is about as loud as a normal vacuum cleaner, but takes less than 10 seconds. But I'll never hear that again anyway, because I always let him do it when I'm away.

I almost took off one star because the price just got ridiculously high. But I let it be, because everyone must decide for themselves whether it is worth it to him.

So far my impression is: would buy again.

    Pro

    • Good room dividing function
    • No annoying and dusty emptying
    • Already when unpacking but also with the device everything seems well thought out
    • iRobot answers itself and quickly to questions here at Digitec

    Contra

    • very expensive
    • Bags also quite expensive (about 6.- per piece)
    • Initial division of the rooms not intuitive and you can not go back a step

If Internet of Things doesn't pass the practical test: the i7 only works when the Roomba server is running.

Correction of my assessment after successful commissioning: If you make the compromise and open the firewall for gigya.com, the setup works and the Roomba convinces with very good performance. The automatic floor plan detection is impressive and offers new possibilities for programming the robot.

Nevertheless, points are deducted for the bumpy setup and the necessity to open the FW - whereby the support from iRobot was not very helpful. I had to find out myself which servers to remove from the firewall's blacklist...

I wanted to put the new i7 into operation. To do this, you have to set up an account - that was done quickly. And then start the app and add the i7. That was more difficult. The server is not available, the support in Switzerland says there is nothing they can do, I have to wait until they are awake in the USA.

Probably the server is simply overloaded today on the day of delivery and maybe it will work tomorrow. But what this practical test shows is how unnecessarily dependent one suddenly is on a server in America. I thought it was a nice gimmick that you can also control the robot via an app. I didn't realise that without the internet and Roomba's server, nothing would work. This also means that if Roomba goes bankrupt tomorrow, the robot will no longer run. Manual or local control is apparently not possible at all or only to a very limited extent with the Wifi enabled devices.

    Pro

    • Looks smart
    • Good performance once set and the server is accessible
    • Floor plan recognition impresses

    Contra

    • Only works to a limited extent without Internet or in the event of server failure

Wow .... I was pleasantly surprised

Wow..... has always been sceptical about robots, and you shouldn't expect miracles from this one either. But it picks up the dust in the flat, is low-maintenance thanks to the suction station and significantly reduces the time invested in "manual" vacuuming every week. The accompanying app is also really good and easy to use. Is it a 100% replacement for a normal hoover? Not (yet) from my point of view.
