Strong mobile phone with a weak camera

For the price, the smartphone is really strong. The performance, at least on the release date, put twice as expensive smartphones in the shade. However, my expectations with regard to the camera were bitterly disappointed, which is why I would like to dedicate this review primarily to the camera.

Since Huawei currently brings the best camera phones onto the market, I assumed that the cheaper models would also take decent photos. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the Honor Play. Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect it to take as good photos as a P20 pro, but the Honor Play takes photos like it did when there were only flip phones. Most of the time, the pictures are massively overexposed unless you manually adjust it for each photo. As soon as it gets just a little darker, you can throw away the Honor Play altogether. The pictures are blurred and 90% blurred. The pictures look as if the phone set the ISO value to maximum at the slightest loss of light. However, you can take some decent photos in sufficient daylight with the Pro mode.

The AI photography is interesting, but too strong for me. The pictures look fake and kitschy. It would be nice to have a bar where you could adjust the strength.

Otherwise, the phone is top-notch. You also notice that they are constantly working on it, so annoying little things like not being able to paste copied phone numbers into the phone field have been fixed.

Finally, it can be said that the focus is clearly on performance, since the phone was also touted as a gamer's phone and was even presented at Gamescom. All games run smoothly for me, only when the phone is overloaded does it start to jerk (I guess that's normal). The battery can also withstand longer playing times. What makes it incredibly strong as a performance phone for this price range, the camera makes up for in small part.

Huge battery life at a bargain price

The Play has very looooong breath thanks to its amazing battery. This makes it the first choice device for screen enthusiasts and business travellers.

Together with the metal casing, the device is a bargain.

    Those
who expect the Play to deliver the highest level of gaming performance are wrong: Compared to the current ones, it is technically average.
