What exactly is LTPO?
LTPO stands for «Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide». Obvious, isn't it? Not quite. Normally, LTPS (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) is used for LCD, OLED or AMOLED displays. A mixture of LTPS and IGZO (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) is used for the application of LTPO. This technology allows the construction of large and small displays. So basically from smartwatches to smartphones. LTPO displays offer a higher pixel density compared to LTPS displays and save a lot of power. And where would power saving be particularly practical? Exactly. For screens with high refresh rates.
Let me give you an example: Still images are displayed at a frequency range of 1 to 11 hertz. Videos at around 30 to 60 hertz. The demand for a high frame rate is indispensable for games. That's why the rate here is around 48 to 120 hertz. So where can a particularly large amount of electricity be saved? With still images. Adaptive technology thus fits precisely into this area. If you browse the Internet, you'll find testimonies telling of power saves around 15 to 20 per cent.
The Swedes are here – Hasselblad camera
According to OnePlus, you'll especially feel the benefit of the partnership with Hasselblad when it comes to «Hasselblad Pro Mode». On the software side, the symbiosis with the Swedish camera sensors is powerful. You can expect improvements in photography, especially in ISO adjustment, white balance, focus and exposure. The OnePlus 9 Pro setup is composed of a main camera with 48 megapixels (f/1.8, 7P, OIS), an ultra-wide-angle lens with 50 megapixels (f/2.2, 7P), a telephoto lens with 8 megapixels (f/2.4, OIS) and a monochrome lens with 2 megapixels.
A side note on the availability of chips
Are you already out of patience? There's little we can do about that either. Globally, there's a chip shortage. While demand for chipsets exploded in the initial lockdowns and other manufacturers stocked up on semiconductors to prepare for the trade war with the U.S., production did not keep up. As if this shortage weren't bad enough, production in Texas was temporarily suspended completely. All due to a flash freeze and resulting power outages. So much for why you might not be able to get your device right at launch.
