Get shorty with these men’s shorts
Shorts have finally lost their bad reputation; but’s they can still make you look like a tourist if you don’t follow a few simple rules. Which ones? Read on to find out.
Wearing shorts, especially those scruffy old ones, used to be frowned upon – although not a rare sight, especially with cruise ship tourists cough. I can’t help but think of Aloha shirts and white socks in hiking sandals. An absolute fashion faux pas, if you ask me. But when it comes to shorts, I’m a fan. They can do so much more than cover the thighs of anyone on a holiday. Let’s take a look at how to wear, style, combine and pimp your shorts.
It’s been a while, but…cargo shorts are back in fashion! Remember their distinctive feature? Patch pockets. Originating from a military purpose, make sure to tone down the sporty look to make these shorts suitable for everyday life. Combine cargo shorts with a long-sleeved shirt and you’re sure to look edgy and cool.

You can't do without your beloved denims, even in summer? Then check out this model. Although these so-called «jorts» (jeans + shorts) might easily become your summer favourite and they go with almost anything, you’re best off only wearing them in your free time. My advice: Combine your jorts with a simple t-shirt and white kicks.

The rich kid:
Whether you’re heading to a restaurant dinner or a grill party, chino shorts are always a good choice. This preppy-style all-rounder will even make you look good on a first date – or if you want to seem quite the big spender. Sorry to mention, but it works with some ladies. What goes well with this look: a nice watch.

The sporting ace:
The popular Athleisure look is good news for shorts: You can now wear your short track pants outside the gym, too. It’s all about how you combine them: I’d go with a cotton long sleeve top (preferably with stripes) and smart shoes – to complement the sporty look.

Follow these 5 tips and you’re sure to pull off the shorts look
Length: The right length is essential – whichever model you choose, make sure your shorts are neither too long nor too short. After all, you don't want to end up with hot pants or Bermudas. The perfect length ends just above your knees.
Fit: «Slim fit» doesn’t only apply to suits but also trousers and shorts. Make sure to wear your shorts «fitted», but not too tight.
Shoes: Wearing shorts with flip-flops or Birkenstock sandals? This look only works if you’re on a beach holiday. Combine your shorts with dandy-style shoes, smart sneakers or boat shoes and you’ll definitely look the part.
Size: If you’re tall, make sure your shorts aren’t too short, as this will make you look even taller. If you’re short, go for a short model, as this will make your legs look longer.
A real winner: If it’s not too hot outside, combine your shorts with a neatly ironed shirt . To take this look one step further, how about finishing off your look with a linen blazer?
