Measuring 4.1 x 6.33 x 1.6 cm and weighing in at 33 g, Edge 130 is a rather small bike computer. It features an 18-inch mono Memory in Pixel (MIP) display, allowing you to get a good view of the screen, even in direct sunlight. This miniature computer has five buttons. Equipped with GPS, GLONASS and Galileo satellites and an altimeter, it locates your position very accurately. The Edge 130 can’t display a map, but it includes navigation with turn prompts and even shows you how to get back to start. You can upload your own routes via USB and connect it to trackers via ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart. On top of this, it features manual accident alerts, displays Strava Live Segments, smart notifications, weather and LivetTrack. Despite its compact size, it has a battery life of up to 15 hours.

Strictly speaking, Garmin’s Edge 520 Plus isn’t a new device, but an updated version of Edge 520 with more features. The one function that the predecessor was lacking was a pre-installed bicycle map or Europe. Edge 520 Plus allows you to plan routes and find your way with turn-by-turn navigation. On top of this, it features LiveTrack, smart notifications, rider-to-rider messages, automatic accident alerts, cycling-specific VO2 monitoring and display of Strava Segments. With third-party apps such as «Trailforks», you can even download bike routes and use them offline.

Garmin’s Varia RTL 510 is a radar tail light that provides visual and audible alerts to warn of vehicles approaching from behind up to 140 metres away. This waterproof radar transmits the information to a bicycle computer, such as the Edge 130, via ANT+. This tail light is visible within a 220-degree range, so drivers can see you well before the radar sees the vehicle. The tail light has 20 lumens in solid mode, 29 lumens in night flash mode and 65 lumens in day flash mode. It is visible from over a kilometre distance and equipped with a battery that lasts up to 6 hours in solid, 6 hours in night flash and 15 hours in day flash mode.

The inReach Mini is an ultra-small and compact satellite communicator. It was developed as an emergency device for people travelling in remote areas. Thanks to 100% global Iridium satellite network, you can be reached in every corner of the globe. Two-way communication lets you send and receive text messages and share your GPS location. You can link your smartphone and make your contacts available by using the free Garmin Earthmate app and compatible devices. In case of an emergency, all you need to do is trigger an interactive SOS to the GEOS 24/7 emergency response team who will then contact you and send a support team. Impact resistant and water-rated to IPX7 standard, inReach Mini has a battery life of up to 50 hours at the default tracking mode and up to 20 days in power saving mode.

Surfing lonely point breaks in Marocco or speeding down the «Never End Trail» in Laax’s bikepark? Catching waves in the river Reuss or pulling off backflips over dirt jumps? Having these two main hobbies means there’s no such thing as bad weather. Today, I leave freeride and slopestyle contests to the young, wild and rubber-boned generation and focus on organising contests with my club in bike park Rüti. As Category Marketing Specialist for our bike range, I’m lucky enough to live my passion every day at work.
