A shirt for 1,200 francs – say what?!

For the coming season, Balenciaga has really taken the biscuit: The Spanish high-fashion label is causing a stir on social media with a shirt sown to a T-shirt.

Hand on heart: When was the last time you were too lazy to try something on whilst clothes shopping? You know, find a mirror and hold the item up to your chest. Done. Proceed to checkout.

This is what Balenciaga’s «Shirt T-Shirt» reminds me of, as featured in their 2018 autumn collection. An overpriced piece that has many shaking their heads in disbelief – and rightly so.

This trend has left the fashion community divided. Images: @balenciaga

Is this hype justified or cuckoo ?

It sure is handy to have a shirt sown onto your T-shirt. That way, you’re equipped in case the evening gets a bit chilly. Nonetheless, this feature does not justify 1,200 francs. However, if you quite literally insist on turning heads at all cost, go for it. It will undoubtedly have people staring. My advice: Make one yourself and keep the cash. This mini DIY project is so easy to do that even my non-existent sewing and gluing skills were enough.

What you need:

Spread your T-shirt out on a hard surface – a table is perfect.
Place the shirt relatively flush with the T-shirt.
As you can see: This trend makes ironing totally overrated...
Attach the shirt to the T-shirt with fabric glue. If you want, you can also sew it on.

Ta-dah! That’s all it takes for a high-fashion look à la Balenciaga. What’s more, you’ve saved your hard-earned money and precious ironing time. I’m a massive Balenciaga fan and a fashion victim and would usually give the shirt off my back for an item I can get in the sales. But this look has left me speechless.
