Does the job, but you will need to hang something heavier at the end of it to keep from tipping over

It does the job of a boom but you are going to have to hang something at the end of it to secure it from tipping over. The balance is not great and the small counterweight is practically useless. I have hung a 65cm Westcott Rapid Box Octa with a Speedlight attached using only the counterweight, but it is definitely held much better (i.e. feels less like it will tip over and come crashing down at any moment) when more weight is added.

The counterweight would have better been replaced by a hook so that you can hang a sandbag or something heavier, but not too heavy, because this thing does very visibly bend at the joints. Also the fastening knob for the hinge is plastic. That is quite strange because the rest of this thing is all metal. It seems odd to have the most used part on this to be made out of plastic. To its defense, this plastic part has held thus far for nearly a year of moderate use without breaking or cracking.

I would advise to use the telescoping feature to extend the length only for when this is being handheld as it will easily tip over a light stand when extended. For work atop a lightstand with the same load, this will be replaced by the 100cm Walimex Pro Boom with 2 Clamps (Walimex Pro Galgen mit 2 Schraubklemmen).
